younger me

Today, Facebook bought Instagram. For one billion dollars. My mind is so boggled by that amount.

I feel conflicted about this. I rejected Facebook several years ago, but I am an avid Instagrammer. Do I have to leave the fold now?

Today, Instagram’s photo of the day theme was “younger me”. So here I am, 20 years ago, with Rhea on my lap, in the shed her dad built in the backyard. It seems (it is!) a lifetime ago.

I think about how my life has changed in oh so many ways. Partly through growth, partly through personal decisions, partly through relationships. Partly through technology.

So it seems fitting to span those decades with an Instagram edit of how we were then.

Because inside, I’m still the same person. Are you?

  1. I believe I am embodied in the same person , yet renewed with mind, spirit and soul as I continue to reinvent myself over and over…each time with new tools to build upon

    The journey in between
    what you once were
and who you are now becoming
is where the dance of life
    really takes place.

  3. Facebook buying instagram makes me feel icky. I’m also not a facebooker, but I love instagram. And I’m about to leave twitter. I’ll wait and see.

It’s funny = I had the same thoughts about technology and my personality and real life when I was (oddly) sitting in church on Sunday morning. I wondered about my real life relationships and whether I sacrifice them for my online ones. And I wondered about the differences between the online version and real life version of the relationships with the same person (for example friends who are also online). I realised I didn’t like the online twitter me. The online blogging me is exactly who I am, but twitter? I don’t think so. I don’t like the twitter Michelle at all. So there are going to be some changes in my life – more socialising in real life and less time on the computer, for one!

I remember Rhea that way. That’s so long ago to me now…
